The Bolsheviks (Soviet Flirt)
I was young in the year of 1917
My life's in danger and I wander far unseen
I met Soviet coquette in the nights of the Moscow
Her face was a shadow and her voice was so cold
She didn't want to hold me, she only told me
She didn't want to hold me, she only told me
The Bolsheviks ride into the night
The Bolsheviks ride
So free, so strong, and brave
No one to save, no one to save
Her eyes were as the stars that shine in the cold night
My Soviet coquette stole my heart in fright
Nothing of the words she spoke, were fears to be believed
Her lips told such stories instead of kissing me
CHORUS
Then one night she is weeping, weeping in the dark
I was killed by Bolsheviks I was son of the czar, oh
She didn't want to hold me, she only told me
She didn't want to hold me, she only told me
The Bolsheviks ride into the night
The Bolsheviks ride
So free, so strong, and brave
No one to save, no one to save
No one to save, no one to save, ooh.
Words and music by Peter Forrest

Date Recorded: 1986 (4-track, Montreal, Québec
CANADA)
Musicians: Peter Forrest (guitar and vocals), John McGrath

Song Notes: This song is another cool Russian-inspired song.
Pete attempts to sing the Russian word "kotketchka"
(coquette) but he didn't know how to pronounce it properly at
the time. Pete was into Russian songs and language back in 1984
after taking a learning Russian book out of the Sarnia Public
Library. The band's friend Gene said that everyone in the
bar would always stop what they were doing and listen to us when
this song was played. It has a driving bass beat and is
fast. It starts with the Volga Boatman riff. This song was part of the first Vee Gates Montreal
demo.
