Girl From Another World
Can't find a decent girl in the paper
I read about her, already hate her
Don't know how to swing, won't go in bars
Somebody told me, look to the stars
I know, look above, there's more love, in another world
I can only love, love a girl, from another world
Loved a girl from this planet
Found out her heart was made of granite
She's not the one that I would chase
Her love chilled me colder than space
I know, look above, there's more love, in another world
I can only love, love a girl, from another world
Oh, look above, there's more love, in another world
Oh, not this world, but a girl, from another world
She showed me how to dance on the rings of Saturn
She showed me how to kiss in Jupiter's mist
She took me for a midnight swim on Neptune
Then for a honeymoon, on the moon... I'm in love!
Can't find a decent girl in the paper
I read about her, already hate her
Don't know how to swing, won't go in bars
Somebody told me, look to the stars
I know, look above, there's more love, in another world
I can only love, love a girl, from another world
Oh, look above, there's more love, in another world
I can only love, love a girl, from another world
Words and music by Peter Forrest and François Dubeau
Year Written: July 1988 (Montréal)
Date Recorded: 1989 (4-track, Montreal, Québec
CANADA)
Musicians: Peter Forrest (vocals), François Dubeau (guitars,
bass, drum programming, vocals)
Song Notes: This song was written by Pete for François
Dubeau's birthday in 1988. François showed Pete a few
chord changes and asked him to make a song out of it. Pete
didn't have much to do during the summer of 1988 in Montreal so
he easily set to the task. He had just broken up with his
girlfriend so he had been browsing some classified ads so the
theme came out in the song. Pete has always loved
astronomy and the planets so it didn't take long to come up with
a song.
You can tell this is a pre-internet dating song because it
mentions newspaper ads for dating.
François loved this song so much that he recorded it right
away and sang it himself! Pete, edited the original recording of
the song and added in the spaceship sound effect in 2003.
