One Russian Winter
She will hold you dearly in the winter
Even though she's only a Russian river
If you freeze in her arms, don't be alarmed
She will hold you until you melt away
Even when she feels the winter coming oh so near
Can she escape it by hiding all those frozen tears?
One rockin' Russian winter
Don't be alarmed!
I see as you're walking across the frozen snow
I know that soon my heart and mind will surely go
What have I done? Oh it's begun!
I'm lost with you in the midnight sun
Even when she feels the winter coming oh so near
Can she escape it by hiding all those frozen tears?
One rockin' Russian winter
Don't be alarmed!
[guitar solo]
Even when she feels the winter coming oh so near
Can she escape it by hiding all those frozen tears?
One rockin' Russian winter, ah ah ah!!!
[Russian guitar solo ending]
Words and music by Peter Forrest
Year Written: 1988 (Montréal)
Date Recorded: 1989 (4-track, Montreal, Québec
CANADA)
Musicians: Peter Forrest (vocals), François Dubeau (guitars,
bass, drum programming)
Song Notes: This song was written for a date with Pete's
girlfriend (to-be). She was born in Montreal and her
parents were of Russian origin so he thought another Russian
song would be in order. He couldn't believe that he had found a
Russian girlfriend to share his madness of his earlier Russian
songs. She had already played with the Vee Gates as a temporary
bassist and her nickname was of course "Rockin' Russian Rina."
You can see her picture in the banner at the top right of this
page and in the photos section.
François recorded a version of the song on his 4-track since
Pete was going to elope with Rockin' Russian Rina to the
Montreal courthouse so it was a kind of wedding present.
They did elope and François was a witness at the courthouse
wedding. The only problem was he put too much bass in the
song. Maybe that is why the marriage never lasted!
hehe He bumped too many tracks on the 4-track and couldn't EQ it
out. Needless to say, François did a great job at Pete's
Russian guitar solos and Pete's voice sounded top notch.
Even Pete's Finnish uncle loved this song.
