The Russian Song
My love's not here, she's in Russia Moscow wasn't big enough, can't be controlled I found her; she carried me away with a shiver
Up and down the Volga river life could never get much better Up and down the vodka river life moonlit winters spent together
I went to Irkutsk, I found nothing I travelled here and there to Red Square I found her; she carried me away with a shiver
Up and down the Volga river life could never get much better Up and down the vodka river moonlit winters spent together
She calls to me In the dark of night Still her waters to the moon Our love can never ruin
I lose my love when she freezes in the winter But when the spring thaw comes again I found her; she carried me away with a shiver
Up and down the Volga river life could never get much better Up and down the vodka river moonlit winters spent together
She calls to me In the dark of night Still her waters to the moon Our love can never ruin Our love can never ruin Last time!
Nyet!
Words and music by Peter Forrest
Year Written: 1983 (Sarnia, Ontario CANADA)
Date Recorded: 1988 (Foufounes électriques, Montreal, Québec
CANADA)
Musicians: Peter Forrest (guitar and vocals), François Dubeau
(bass), Danny-boy Schwartz (drums)
Song Notes: This song shows Peter Forrest's first fascination with
Russia and Russian music. He wrote it in Sarnia at the age of
18 back in 1983. The Vee Gates liked to play this song live and here is the Foufounes dubious version with François' loud NYET! Notice
the joke about "vodka river" in the last chorus.
John Cash really loved this song and so did François. Our
temporary bassist in 1988, Rockin' Russian Rina loved it as
well!
