Sign of 4
We need to find who they really are
Who is behind the sign of four… sign of four
The four… sign of four
The sign of four, the sign of four!
Bring two friends, and she brought two
Yet, who were they, and what could they do?
It's a mystery of the pearls she wore
Yet, what could be seen, except the sign of the four
We need to find who they really are
Who is behind the sign of four… sign of four
The four… sign of four
The sign of four, the sign of four!
Cause when I went, I went too far
And now I've seen the sign of the four
It's too late, the violence is done
Yet who has lost and who has won?
We need to find who they really are
Who is behind the sign of four… sign of four
The four… sign of four
The sign of four, the sign of four!
Words and music by Peter Forrest
Year Written: 1986 (Québec City)
Date Recorded: 1988 (4-track, Montreal, Québec
CANADA)
Musicians: Peter Forrest (vocals), François Dubeau (guitars,
bass, drum programming)
Song Notes:
This was a song that Pete wrote in that basement apartment
(room) in Quebec City during a blizzard in February 1986.
No other song made it to the Vee Gates' repertoire from his
Quebec City days that were mostly introspective acoustic songs.
However, when relocating to Montreal, John Cash came up with
that amazing bass line riff that made the song even cooler.
The title was based on a Sherlock Holmes novel. The song
has a catchy guitar riff that is also played on the bass.
François produced an excellent version with his university
prof's acoustic
guitar on the opening riff. It was recorded in François'
N.D.G. (Montreal) apartment. hehe
Basic Guitar Chords:
Opening: Gm, Cm, F, Bb
Chorus: Gm, Cm, F, Bb (2x), Gm, Bb, F, Eb (2x), D, Eb, D
Verses: (notes only) G, Bb, Eb, D
