Study in Scarlet
She goes to the church on a Sunday, and even though it's not a
Monday yet,
She has no money to pay her debts
And when she's called to the altar, she knows she's been
faltering
She's been wearing everything from black to red
It's a study in scarlet
It's a study in scarlet
She gave her last farthing, and now she is parting
She's leaving from the graveyard from the church
And then she spots a fire, and she sees it growing higher
And she throws the red in the fire
It's a study in scarlet
It's a study in scarlet
Whoa, a study in scarlet
Whoa, a study in scarlet
She'd rather be dead then have to wear this red again
She'd rather be dead then have to wear this red again
This red, this red again
[2x]

Words and music by Peter Forrest
Year Written: May 1986 (Montréal)
Date Recorded: 1986 (4-track, Montréal, Québec
CANADA)
Musicians: Peter Forrest (guitar and vocals), John McGrath

Song Notes: This is one of Pete's favourite song and it was
the first song he wrote when he moved to Montreal (from Quebec
City) in May 1986.
The title was based on a Sherlock Holmes novel. The song
has a catchy guitar riff that is played on the bass that he made
up while watching a rerun of "Three's Company." No joke. The
idea for this song was also inspired by the Beatles "Yes it Is"
that his friend John Cash had sent him on a mix tape to
Montreal. This
song was part of the first Vee Gates Montreal demo.
