Ravin' of the Week : (Nov 08- Nov 30, 1995) I live in Lowell, Mass. We have a tavern (bar) here called the Old Worthing. It is stated on their menu, and considered by the locals to be fact, that Mr. Poe got drunk there frequently. The tavern is mostly in its original conditions and has one of the only two working belt driven paddle fan systems still working today. Any idea if this is true? Eddie Lisay, Jr. PF replies: No more need for useless speculation, Eddie!!! Here is a signed letter from E.A. Poe himself stating he did indeed partake of alcoholic libations there on a regular basis!
