| Ravin' of the Week : (June 18- June 30, 1997) A True Little Teaching Story Related to The Raven
I'm a middle school teacher preparing a presentation on a mystery interdisciplinary unit for a local middle school conference. I had to let you know what a GREAT time I've had at your website. I jumped out of my chair a few times with the added sound effects. Here's a true little teaching story related to The Raven: A few years ago (when I taught high schoolers), my classes were studying Poe and his works. We had just finished reading The Raven and I was asking pointed questions to my students about the bird's purpose in the poem. One of my students raised his hand and with dire seriousness said, "Why didn't he just shoot that bird? That would have solved his problem right there!" Now, how do you answer that question? :) Robbyn Wax PF replies: You can never be too Plutonian sure of what's the Raven's got hidden behind that pallid bust of Pallas! One lesson for 7th Graders, better look before shooting yer mouth off! hehehe!
